about

PASSING THE TORCH is the name of this new JAZZING, number 13.
PASSING THE TORCH was the name of the concert we did at the Palau de la Música on 25 November 2022.
This was the text that the Festival de Jazz de Barcelona used as the presentation of the concert:
"For more than two decades, La Locomotora Negra has been an essential part of our Festival, always with a new premiere programme. One of those years, in 2010, La Locomotora proposed a concert entitled "Swing, Swing, Swing!" which was the debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana of a project that was then almost newborn, the Sant Andreu Jazz Band (SAJB).
12 years later, La Locomotora has said goodbye to the stage and the SAJB has established itself as one of the most fascinating projects in the recent history of jazz, and not only here.
Passing the Torch is a tribute, then, to the past, present and future of jazz, with three of the founders of La Locomotora Negra (Marc Trepat and the brothers Ricard and Toni Gili) as special guests of the big band conducted by Joan Chamorro.
An orchestra in which soon more than 100 musicians will have played and which has undergone an incredible renewal in recent years. The future of jazz is here, and the Sant Andreu Jazz Band is a leading player. The torch is still very much alive".
On the other hand, Passing the Torch also makes sense within the SAJB. The renewal of the musicians who form part of the project has been very great in the last two years. The average age nowadays is 14-15 years old. Many new faces, new challenges, new illusions.
Thanks to the Festival de Jazz de Barcelona for making this concert possible and thanks to all the musician friends who took part in it.
We continue with the same enthusiasm as ever, if not more.
The dream continues to come true.
